He dedicated his life to serving his country and excelled in his military career, where he served in critical roles such as Counter-Insurgency Instructor, Targeting Officer, and Battalion Fire Support Officer. He also completed significant military educational programs such as the Joint Targeting School, Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and General Staff College, and the School of Advanced Military Studies. Despite his military achievements, Scott's dedication, leadership, and exemplary service earned him several personal decorations. He is survived by 20 nieces and nephews.

Lt. Col. Michael Scott Flurry, lovingly known as Scott, of Jacksonville, N.C., passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 39. He was born on April 21, 1984, in Bellevue, Neb., to Susan Flurry and the late Michael Houghton Flurry. Scott graduated from Peru State in Nebraska where he played football throughout his time there. Scott dedicated his life to serving his country and excelled in his military career. He was commissioned in the U.S.M.C. in December 2008 and went on to have a remarkable career. Throughout his service, he deployed to various locations, including Afghanistan, Spain, and Iraq, where he served in critical roles such as Counter-Insurgency Instructor, Targeting Officer, and Battalion Fire Support Officer. Notably, Scott was the lead planner for the large multinational NATO exercise in Norway called Nordic Response 24. His commitment to professional development was evident in his completion of significant military educational programs, including the Joint Targeting School, Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and General Staff College, and the School of Advanced Military Studies. The latter being reserved only for the brightest and most promising officers. Beyond his military accomplishments, Scott had a passion for lifting weights, where he found joy and a place to relieve stress. He also was an avid and passionate University of Nebraska Cornhuskers Football fan. He cherished spending time with his family and was a loving and devoted husband to Lindsay for 12 years and a loving father to his daughters Ava Lynn, Emma Rae, Cora Rose, and Holland Beau. He is also survived by many siblings; Joanne Vaughn (Nick), Sarah Brick, Trevor Flurry and Abigail Michael (Rydge). Scott also is survived by 20 nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Scott is remembered by his family as humble, easy going, competitive, uncomplicated, generous and steadfast. He had a great sense of humor, fun to be around and always willing to help. Above all, he loved his girls and their time together, especially playing board games. Scott was highly intelligent but did not flaunt his knowledge. Most importantly, Scott was a faithful, loyal hardworking Marine and Christian. Scott’s dedication, leadership, and exemplary service earned him several personal decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, U.S. Navy and U.S.M.C. Commendation Medal, U.S. Navy and U.S.M.C. Achievement Medal. Services for Lt.Col. Michael Scott Flurry was held March 26, at the Marston Pavilion on Camp Lejeune. He will be remembered for his bravery, integrity, and unwavering commitment to duty.
