Juneteenth, Bold Love Fest and other fun stuff happening this weekend in Jacksonville
Juneteenth celebrations are happening all over the Jacksonville area this weekend, plus a music fest, rugby league games and a movie premiere. Juneteenth celebrations are taking place in the Jacksonville area this weekend, marking the day in 1865 when Texas slaves learned they were free. Celebrations include a music festival at Daily's Place, a red-carpet movie premiere at the Ritz Theatre, a Juneteenth Concert at St. Johns Cathedral, a parade, lectures, concerts at the Lincolnville Juneteenth Community Festival in St. Augustine’s Lincolnville neighborhood. Over 200 Black-owned businesses are expected to be present at the Jax Melanin Market Juneteenth Celebration. A new film, "Rights of a Father," debuts at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Ritz theatre, featuring Disney Channel stars Aly & AJ, Australian drummer/singer G Flip, LGBT icon Vincint and “Ru Paul’�s Drag Race” veterans Monet X Change and Trinity The Tuck Taylor.

Juneteenth celebrations take center stage around the Jacksonville area this weekend, with celebrations planned from downtown to St. Augustine. But there's also a big LBGTQ+ music festival going on at Daily's Place, a red-carpet movie premiere and a couple of down-and-dirty Rugby League games on the schedule.
Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when Texas slaves learned they were free. There are a number of celebrations planned in the Jacksonville area:
• Civil rights activists who were in St. Augustine in ‘64 share their experiences at the Juneteenth Heritage Celebration and Luncheon at the Renaissance St. Augustine. 11 a.m. Saturday. Info: lincolnvillemuseum.org
• A parade, lectures, concerts. Lunches, artists and poets are planned at the Lincolnville Juneteenth Community Festival, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday in St. Augustine’s Lincolnville neighborhood. Info: facebook.com

If you’ve ever wanted to attend the red-carpet premiere of a movie, here’s your chance. “Rights of a Father,” a new film shot in Jacksonville and Green Cove Springs, makes its debut at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ritz Theatre. Join volunteers as they clean up put new plantings in James Weldon Johnson Park, the downtown square named for one of the writers of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing.” A DJ, poetry readings and food trucks are also planned. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Info: dtjax.com
Jacksonville now has two Rugby League teams, one for men and one for women. Both are in action Saturday on the North Rugby Fields at UNF. The JaxAxe Women RL takes on the Tampa Mischief at 5 p.m. and the Axemen face the Tampa Mayhem at 7 p.m. A $10 ticket gets you into both games. Info: jaxaxe.com
